Blackwaterfoot Lodge is situated in the village centre, 50 yards from the picturesque harbour, a short stroll from the sandy beach and the unique 12 hole Shiskine Links Golf Course. A warm welcome awaits guests, as does comfortable, no-smoking, en-suite accommodation. The Lodge is fully licensed and the bar, depending on availability features cask conditioned real ale with a good selection of single malt whiskies. The restaurant has earned an enviable reputation on Trip Advisor and Google.
Blackwaterfoot Lodge was built, we believe in 1899, by the Bannatyne Family to provide holiday accommodation for the increasing numbers of summer holiday makers from the industrial central belt of Scotland. From records we've inherited, it looks as if there were originally 24 bedrooms, served by one bathroom, though it's difficult to see how that many rooms would fit, unless the attic rooms were used. Nowadays, we have six bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and one other room with a private bathroom situated just along the hallway. The building would have been heated by open fires in those days, many of the fireplaces are now hidden behind new facias, but some have been retained to supplement the modern central heating system. A real fire still provides a cosy focal point in the bar, the residents lounge and the main dining room. An eco-friendly bio-mass boiler installed in 2018 drives the central heating system. A major refurbishment is underway during this winter (2020/21) that will provide a self catering studio apartment. The conservatory will also be refurbished in time for the 2021 season - we hope.Ayrshire Connect
