Girvan

Girvan is a town situated on the Ayrshire coast, 56 miles south of Glasgow. Just offshore, the town’s scenery includes clear views of Ailsa Craig and the rolling hills of Arran in the background.

The town has its own train station and is situated on the A77 linking Glasgow to the ferry Terminal at Cairnryan, making it an easy destination to get to.

Girvan is a fishing community with a large harbour (relative to the size of the town) with ample parking for visits to the beach. This is also the place to be for a boat trip around and on the famous Ailsa Craig.

Around the harbour you’ll find a host of seaside tourist attractions including arcades, chip shops and ice-cream shops. Originally built as a prison, Girvan’s main attractions is the Stumpy Tower. No longer in action, it is a great historical building to visit with plenty of information points to delve into.

In Girvan’s town centre you can find The McKechnie Institute, originally used as a local gathering place and library, it is now used to showcase local art and history. Also along the high street you’ll find a number of retail stores, cafes and service shops.

There are no less than 20 different castles scattered around the Girvan area, many are ruins and found between Ballantrae and Turnberry. Others such as Culzean remain intact and can be visited and explored.

Along the A77 coast road, the world-famous Trump Turnberry golf course can be found. This is the perfect place for all your needs, with multiple entertainment offerings, restaurants, and accommodation.

In and around Girvan there are many events taking place each year. Most of the villages have their own fair days in the summer with one of the main attractions being the Ballantrae Food Festival. In addition, Girvan has its own events such as the folk festival, lantern parade, lowland gathering and much more.
