Troon is probably best know for golf - with seven courses to choose from including the Open Championship course Royal Troon which boasts spectacular views across to the Isle of Arran.
The beautiful sandy beaches attract many visitors each summer, the esplanade is ideal for walking or cycling and the coastal waters bring wind and kite surfers to the area and Troon Yacht Haven offers fantastic facilities for sailing enthusiasts and the harbour supplies locally-caught fish and seafood to the nearby restaurants.
There are great walks - try the Smugglers' Trail - and cycle routes and Troon is a perfect based to explore the rest of Ayrshire's attractions.
