Ayrshire Connect

Troon

The beautiful and still mostly traditional seaside town of Troon sits on the Ayrshire coastline and boasts stunning sandy beaches with views overlooking Ailsa Craig and the Isle of Arran. It retains the old seaside charm whilst offering modern facilities for both shoppers and visitors.

Whether you're looking for a local day out shopping, a weekend break, a live music festival or an activity holiday, there is something for everyone in and around Troon.

The town centre offers a variety of independent cafes, pubs and restaurants, unique gift shops and great outlets for fresh food and drink. You’ll find family butchers, delicatessen, bakers, fresh fruit and veg, locally landed fish, a traditional-style sweetie shop, and even a high street bank!

Troon is possibly best known for its golf, with courses weaving their way through the whole town. It is a regular venue for The Open Championship, and Royal Troon Golf Club will once again host the world-famous event in July 2024, more than a hundred years after it did so for the first time.

But there's more to Troon than golf, and with a superb marina and berthing facilities at the harbour, a vibrant live music venue in the Concert Hall, a superb selection of independent retailers and a choice of great restaurants, bars and cafes, there is something for all ages all year round.

Walking routes include the Smugglers Trail which goes over the hill to the historic Dundonald Castle, as well as beautiful, bracing beach walks extending for miles along the promenade to Prestwick in the South, and all the way to Irvine in the North. There is also a strong network of cycle paths.

There is easy access to the rest of the attractions in Ayrshire which offers a choice of accommodation, from five star luxury through to bed and breakfast and self-catering properties.

With two railway stations, Troon and Barassie, and two services per hour to and from Glasgow and Ayr, the town is easy to reach by train or car and is no more than 40 minutes from the centre of Glasgow. Prestwick Airport is only a couple of miles away too.
